SAFETY + VERIFICATION04 / 05

Evidence advances the program.
Not optimism.

The planning system may propose work. Only deterministic controls, measured process windows and named acceptance authorities permit the machine to move, transform or place material.

04.1 / AUTHORITY STACK

Who may decide what.

LAYER 01Mission authority

Sets work polygon, structural basis, recipe, reserves and release conditions.

LAYER 02AI advisory

Proposes terrain interpretation, sequence, route and toolpaths with confidence bounds.

LAYER 03Deterministic supervisor

Rejects commands outside signed limits and controls approved state transitions and recovery.

LAYER 04Independent protection

Emergency stop, overcurrent, temperature, tilt, collision, containment and energy isolation.

04.2 / EARTH GATES

Five reasons to continue—or stop.

G0

Architecture freeze

Approve ConOps, requirements, hazards, budgets, P&ID and interface control documents.

EXIT EVIDENCE

No unowned critical interface; mass, power and process models close with margin.

G1

Bench material loop

Run the complete dosing, mixer, buffer, pump, hose, nozzle and cleanout path.

EXIT EVIDENCE

Repeatable recipe delivery, restart, blockage recovery and captured cleaning.

G2

Motion mule

Run rover, stabilization, arm, perception and work-zone controls with inert media.

EXIT EVIDENCE

Stable poses, bounded registration error and safe terrain, sensor and network faults.

G3

Coupled Alpha

Link every bead to its batch, settings, toolpath and as-built scan.

EXIT EVIDENCE

Geometry and material evidence remain in-window across move-and-reset cycles.

G4

Pilot release

Validate safety case, crew, service plan, structural basis and field method independently.

EXIT EVIDENCE

Released site, trained operators, spares, emergency plan and signed acceptance authority.

04.3 / OFFWORLD GATES

Subsystem heritage is not system readiness.

O1

Simulant process

Moon/Mars branch

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

Three lunar or Mars-relevant simulants; publish specific energy, grading, strength distribution, porosity, flexure, fracture and wear.

O2

Ten-tonne feed loop

Moon/Mars branch

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

Scoop, Prep Dock and Forge handle ≥10 t with recorded energy, reject mass, tool wear, jams and every manual intervention.

O3

Environmental coupon

Moon/Mars branch

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

Build 1 m² horizontal works and a 1 m compression element in relevant vacuum or CO₂, temperature and dust conditions.

O4

Thirty-day autonomy

Moon/Mars branch

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

Run delayed communications, sensor loss, blocked feed, power interruptions and recovery without hidden teleoperation.

O5

Flight precursor

Moon/Mars branch

REQUIRED EVIDENCE

Create, inspect and proof-load a 100–1,000 kg offworld structural coupon before any habitat-scale claim.

04.4 / FIRST KILL TESTS

Try to invalidate the architecture early.

K01 / MATERIAL

Lot drift

Vary feed, grading and ambient state. Stop if the released lot or final geometry cannot be predicted and recovered.

K02 / MOBILITY

Move + re-register

Excavate and place across uneven ground. Stop if seam error or survey time destroys useful production.

K03 / AUTONOMY

Delayed supervision

Inject jam, occlusion, link loss, thermal trip and actuator faults. Stop if routine recovery needs real-time teleoperation.

04.5 / SIMULATION LAB

Generate test questions. Never manufacture evidence.

Player behavior

Routes, empty haul, docking attempts, rejected feed, jams, stabilization events and energy reserve expose where the architecture creates friction.

Hypothesis output

The debrief turns those synthetic choices into questions for physical rigs, analysis, instrumentation and witnessed field tests.

Evidence class

Every run remains simulation-hypothesis-only. A score, completion state or downloaded report is not measured machine performance.

Gate rule

No simulator result verifies a requirement, qualifies material, validates autonomy, establishes structural safety or closes G0–G4 or O1–O5.

04.6 / STANDARDS BASIS

Start here. Verify applicability.

ISO/ASTM 52939

Additive construction process and quality principles.

ACI Committee 564

Cementitious 3-D printing guidance and industry work.

ISO 12100 + ISO 13849

Machinery risk reduction and safety-related controls.

ISO 10218

Robot and integration safety principles.

ISO 3691-4

Evaluate autonomous industrial truck principles for mobility.

Mission assurance

Planetary protection, flight safety, pressure systems and mission-specific standards still govern.
